The Trojan Family Abroad

Very few alumni worldwide can say their school feels like family. Often, college is viewed as just a step along the path to one’s career, and many people move on without looking back after graduation. However, USC is different. The Alumni are the focal reason that USC is the prestigious university it is today. The achievements of our alumni create a positive perception of the university, and they continue to support students and the institution through alumni groups both nationwide and globally.

Shared Commitment to Success

The Trojan Family is more than just a network; it is a community rooted in mutual support, mentorship, and a genuine desire to see fellow Trojans succeed. Alums frequently describe their pride in seeing USC’s values embodied by others across the globe and in different industries. “These connections we are provided at USC give us access to a multitude of career, internship, and mentorship opportunities that enable us to sharpen skills that transcend borders and shape global conversations” said India Starr, a USC graduate student. USC graduates do not just enter the workforce; they carry a legacy of excellence and integrity that binds them to each other, whether they graduated five years ago or fifty. These connections often lead to friendships, collaborations, and even business ventures, reinforcing USC’s reputation for fostering enduring professional and personal relationships.

Evidence/ quotes from alumni

While countless students choose USC for its wealth of resources and opportunities during their studies, many also choose it for the doors it holds open long after graduation. “We treat each other like family here” said Garrick Tung, who graduated from USC in 2016. His words echo a sentiment that resonates deeply within the USC community—a shared understanding that once you are a Trojan, you are part of a family for life.

Resources

Part of what makes USC unique is the intentional way it creates relationships that extend beyond the classroom. The USC Career Centre’s global outreach and online resources help alums in each of Asia stay connected with opportunities worldwide. Combined with local chapter events, alums in the region benefit from a unique blend of local and global resources. From providing local support to networking opportunities for professional growth, the alum systems and USC alum chapters worldwide ensure that no Trojan is ever far from home. Alums frequently attend these events to network and mentor younger Trojans just starting their journey. For example, USC’s Hong Kong alum network hosts many events that cater to all Trojans. These include a warm welcome event for the newest graduating class, a festive Christmas/ Chinese New Year dinner at the country club, a Cross-borders event where alums and students gather for networking opportunities in China, and many more.

Cultural/ East Asia

Cultural diversity is also celebrated. Many USC alumni in East Asia are local to the region, while others come from international backgrounds, enriching the USC alumni community with a broad array of perspectives. This type of diversity is seen as a strength, fostering an environment where ideas are shared openly and differences are valued. The result is a Trojan Family that supports its members and actively contributes to the growth and success of each of its members in East Asia’s dynamic economies.

Looking Ahead to the future

The Trojan Families influence will only grow as USC continues to welcome East Asian students and support alums throughout the region. USC’s commitment to a global perspective and a genuine dedication to the community ensures that future generations of Trojans will benefit from an even more robust network in East Asia. Each year, new graduates enter the world with the confidence that, wherever their career takes them, they will find support from fellow Trojans. For the Trojan family in East Asia, it is not a region but a thriving part of the global Trojan network. In this place, alums can find both familiar faces and new opportunities. Through their support for one another, Trojans in East Asia demonstrate USC’s values and serve as ambassadors for the spirit of community and excellence that defines what it means to be a part of the Trojan Family.
